The house

A small hotel that runs on California time.

Lumina began life as a garden apartment court, built in 1958 for screenwriters and set painters who wanted a pool and a short drive to the studios. We kept the bones: terrazzo floors, breeze-block walls, a courtyard of monstera and banana leaves. Then we added very good beds.

  • Breakfast in the Sunroom, included with every direct booking
  • No resort fee. Wi-Fi, bikes and the pool are part of the room
  • A real person at the desk, day and night

Guest notes

In their own words.

A few lines our guests left in the book at the front desk, shared with their permission.

We did not plan to spend a whole afternoon on the terrace, and then we did. The morning bun alone is worth the drive from Pasadena.
HannahStayed in a Terrace Room, May
The light at six is exactly what they say it is. Quiet room, very good bed, staff who remembered how I take my coffee by day two.
MarcoStayed in a Sunset King, March
Two kids, one pool and a living room between the bedrooms. That layout saved our holiday. The bikes were a big hit.
PriyaStayed in the Sol Family Suite, August
Warm enough to swim in January. I worked from the courtyard every morning and walked to Vermont for dinner.
